Having an opinion and the freedom to speak, dress, and act how ever you want is very essential to me. I believe that putting a restriction on yourself and your creativity is possibly the worst thing you could ever do. Why? Because fashion is more then just fabric a textiles, it is a life choice. It is an opportunity for you to leave the real world and step into your imagination. It doesn’t take money to feel beautiful or too look amazing, it doesn’t take being a size four to feel like the badest bitch in the club either(trust me). All it takes is you making that choice to be yourself, and believing in your look. You have to have confidence in whatever you’re wearing! Wither it’s a plastic bag or a McQueen coat. But to be fair we don’t all grow up thinking this way. It takes time or that right moment to take all of your previous thoughts and arrange them in a tactic that works for you.
What started it all for me??? Hmmmmm…………………..Blow Up!! My home away from home. I guess everyone; at some point of there life, has that one moment where everything just makes sense and you realize you’re exactly where you need to be. The moment I walked into the Rickshaw stop and saw everyone’s beautiful faces and amazing outfits I felt like I had found a group of people that were just like me. I didn’t need to be normal or fit into a stereo type. If I felt Like a Super hero that night I would paint on a mask and wear a cape, or if I felt like a star I would throw guitar all over my outfit and glue on as many eye lashes as possible. It didn’t matter. In the words of James St. James “If you feel like a troll, you should dress like a troll. It doesn't matter what you look like. If you've got a hunchback just throw a little glitter on it honey and go dancing!” When Ari and I started to go to Blow up we felt liberated and justified. Our minds merged and all of a sudden these ideas came to push the envelope and create the kind of things outsiders would consider Halloween costumes. Button, Nails, army men, bubbles, cookies, tools!! Anything our little hearts wanted. People would come up to us and ask, “Where did you get those??” there minds were blown when we replied; “We made it.” I could see a little spark in there eyes as they looked at us. It was either Wow these kids are pretty fucking awesome, or what weirdo’s. What ever the case I know that one person who saw us went home and thought to there self, what could I do to push the envelope as well??? And to me that’s all that matters, because if we don’t provoke each other to be better and go the distance fashion wise, who else will?
That is why we created Disco Accessories, which is a combination of Me (Franchesca Galbraith), Ariana Cooper and a lot of hard work. We make Head pieces, Glasses, and anything our little minds can imagine. Because really, all it takes is a little confidence and lot of hot glue!!
Remember kids Don’t dream it, Be it.
